This is a strange time we are living in and it gets more complicated every single month in 2020. But there are so good things to think about and that is something that is a bit strange. I know that many people struggle to find the good in medical hardships but there are truly some amazing things about living your life after a hard medical procedure. It is also important to find those challenging things that you strive for after you get out of surgery. I know that after my ostomy I decided I was going to attempt to do even more outdoor activities and I wanted to just push myself and not hold back because I ended up getting a surgery. This is something that I knew I needed to do on my own and I knew that if I didn’t push myself I may just end up falling into mediocrity. So instead of stopping my outdoor hiking and backpacking, I knew that as soon as I was able to get back at the gym after my surgery I was going to train even harder.
But even though I knew I was going to train harder, I also was not going to be unwise and simply hurt myself. There is a fine line between being healthy and learning how to get back into the in a nice and healthy way. I knew I needed to get over my learning curve of learning how to use my ostomy gear and to make sure I was not going to make any nasty mistakes in public. So I worked really hard to understand my gear and how to push myself to find the best gear for my body and my stoma. It was not an easy task, but part of being safe while being active is having a lot of knowledge to back up my task and give me confidence. It is confidence that is needed to be able to go out and be safe and active in public so I tried to learn all I could.

The first place I learned about my stoma care was obviously my doctor and ostomy nurse. I learned an amazing amount of information and got through all teh basics, but I also wanted different perspectives and a whole lot of knowledge on the end of the sale to find the best gear that I could have and what most people are using and for that, I went to the pharmacist. The pharmacist was a great knowledge base to go after because they sell and buy based on what works the best for their clientele. I have some great conversations with my local pharmacists to see what was the most popular and where to go.

What I learned was that the major manufactures of ostomy gear are really good at helping the average person learn and get amazing gear for the specific needs that they may be after. I called up a few companies and learned some incredible things that I never would have even thought of when working out. I got some really cool free samples to see if their suggestions would work well with my body. What I found was really some cool things that are able to help me get outside and hike and jog trails more easily.
